Welcome to DASI:Emotional First Aid Box

  • It is said that one-in-four of us know of someone who has committed suicide.
  • At some point in time, each suicide victim belonged to a family.
  • This being so, suicide is an issue which potentially threatens every family regardless of race, profession or culture.
  • Accordingly, suicide is clearly a potential threat to every "family" and as such, needs to be tackled. Ideally within the family.

The umbrella name for this venture is DASI

There are a large number of suicide prevention websites that approach the whole subject through cold clinical objectivity.

Doubtless these "objective" resources are the results of much painstaking analysis, research and formulation by experts, and are excellent as far as objectivity goes.

Unfortunately, suicide is not objective, suicide IS subjective.

DASI views suicide subjectively, and unashamedly do so on behalf of any or all of us going through crises which could degenerate into a suicidal crisis.

Who is DASI intended for?

ALL OF US!!!

Anyone undergoing a suicidal crisis.

Why EMOTIONAL FIRST AID ?

Physical injuries, wounds and scars can be extremely painful, but they are visible, and so treatable.

Mental and emotional wounds and scars can be far worse because they are not always obvious.

Daisy

Originally, the name DASI (pronounced the same as the flower) referred to a local initiative called the Derbyshire Anti -Suicide Initiative. How things have changed ... Or is DASI simply growing up?

Now DASI recognises that suicide is a global issue which needs to be addressed by each one of us in our own way. In this respect: The letters in DASI now refer to Despair And Self Intervention. Because at some point (in every suicidal crisis) we need to intervene to save ourselves.

Regardless of the meaning of the name: The sole purpose of this initiative remains the same, and that is to try to save just one life, hopefully yours - or that of someone you love and care about.

It is only when emotional distress becomes a debilitating condition that it may be diagnosed as being a mental health condition. The purpose of the emotional first aid kit is to suggest methods of dealing with emotional distress before it becomes debilitating.

In the life of every family there are good times and their are bad times. Times of joy and times of grief. When we (or those we love) experience happiness we enjoy life and everything in life is good.

When we are in ill health the family gather around and nurse us back to health. When we are physically injured we reach for the First Aid Box.

But what happens when we or those we love suffer an emotional crisis.

There is nothing in a conventional First Aid Box to treat such an injury.

What is  required is some form of Emotional First Aid Box.

That is the objective of this site. To suggest a number of simple methods of dealing with emotional distress before it can result in a breakdown or a suicidal crisis.

The first thing to bear in mind is that suicide is preventable. No matter how frightening the situation may seem, it truly can be overcome.

ALL SITES ARE PRESENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
