Welcome to SIGNPOST. This was the
original DASI website and is arguably the most important. Glad you could make it. As you can see from the page
itself, the original DASI tried to focus on the UK and Ireland. This being so this page is keeping it's original
form for sentimental reasons. The rest of this site is intended to signpost 'options' throughout the whole English Speaking
World.
Signpost is intended to provide any individual going through a
suicidal crisis; with sources of help, support, and all-important coping strategies to help them to survive.
If you are seeking such information and support, then I hope that Signpost will be be able to provide you with the assistance
you require.

If you know of someone going through a suicidal crisis whose first language is not
English. Please assist them to call Mindinfoline on 08457 7660 163. This confidential help-line has over 3000 trained
interpreters providing counselling in over 100 languages. Unfortunately, this important help-line is not a 24 hour facility.
The lines are open Mon - Fri 9.15 am - 4.45 pm. But
if you manage to link that person through to the appropriate interpreter, you could be saving a life. So please
lend whatever assistance you can.
In Shakespeare's immortal words "to be-or not to be" we find the fundamental
paradox of suicide. That paradox being that "not to be" does not have the same meaning as "to
die". I do not believe that we wish "to die". We simply choose "not to be" in a particular
condition at a particular time...
Not to be in this impossible situation... Not to be in this intolerable pain...Not
to be in this agonizing anguish...Not to be suffering... Not to be here...
All too often, this desire not to be results in a suicidal act. But the intention
is never to die simply not to be.
It is hoped that by finding the right coping strategy it will be possible to convert 'not to
be' into 'TO BE'.
